Fellow - a doctor training to become a specialist in a given field of medicine.
Fentanyl - a narcotic analgesic used to relieve pain; stronger than morphine.
FFP - fresh frozen plasma; a blood product.
FISH - fluorescence in situ hybridization, a molecular technique used in chromosome studies.
Foley catheter - a thin tube inserted into the bladder to remove urine.
Fornix - an archlike structure or the vaultlike space created by such a structure; fornix of brain; either of a pair of arched fiber tracts that unite under the corpus callosum, so that together they comprise two columns, a body, and two crura.
Frasier/Fraser syndrome - a condition characterized by the presence of an XY sex chromosome constitution and undermasculinized external genitalia that may range from ambiguous in appearance to normal-looking female genitalia. There is also kidney disease (glomerulosclerosis) and gonadal tumors (gonadoblastoma). Frasier syndrome is caused by point mutations in the WT1 gene (in the intron 9 donor splice site).
Fryn's syndrome - a genetic condition involving abnormalities in many organ systems; abnormalities include a characteristic facial appearance, including a broad nasal bridge (part of the nose between the eyes), small jaw, abnormal ears, cleft palate, abnormal fingers, underdevelopment of the lungs, and abnormalities of the urogenital system (kidneys and genitals).
